Building a Brand That Feels Like You (Even If You're Still Figuring It Out)

Mentor SBH

Raise your hand if you’ve ever posted something on Instagram, then deleted it because it “didn’t sound professional enough, it was not perfect enough, you needed to go back and edit what you forgot....” Been there. Most small business owners don’t struggle with branding ...they struggle with trusting their own voice.

I spent years writing captions that sounded like someone I thought I was supposed to be. When I finally started writing like me, everything changed. My people found me. My business grew. And I stopped feeling like I was pretending.

Let’s build your brand from your truth, not a template.

Step 1: Your Brand Is a Feeling, not a Font

Colors matter. Logos matter. But your brand is how people feel when they interact with you. Your brand is also the perception of reality you want your future clients to have about their possibilities when working with you.

Action Step: Ask 3 people who know your work to describe it in 3 words. Use that as a base. Are you bold? Soft? Direct? Grounded? Your voice is your brand.

Step 2: Your Story Is the Strategy

No one else has your journey. That’s your power. Stop burying it behind “perfect.”

Action Step: Write a one-paragraph version of “why you started.” Don’t filter. Just write it raw. Then read it aloud. That’s your brand heartbeat. Tell your story!

Step 3: Talk Like You, not a Brand Guide

Your emails, your posts, your website, they should sound like you. Not like a company handbook.

Action Step: Record yourself explaining what you do as if you were talking to a friend. Then type that out and clean it up for you About section or caption.

Step 4: Consistency Builds Trust

It’s not about posting every day. It’s about showing up the same way every time you do.

Action Step: Choose 3 pillars (topics) you talk about. Then rotate. Example: (1) My story, (2) Client wins, (3) Educational content.

Step 5: Mentorship Sharpens Your Voice

Every great communicator has someone in their corner — a coach, a friend, a mentor. You need someone to reflect back what’s working and what’s missing.

Action Step: Record a 60-second brand intro and send it to someone you trust. Ask, “Does this feel like me?”

Final Thoughts

You are the magic in your brand. When you show up as yourself, your business starts to feel like home, not a performance.

If this resonated, that’s not accidental. I see you. I know what it feels like to build something from scratch and want to get it right. I’ve helped people just like you own their voice, and I believe with all my heart you’re more ready than you think.

I want you to know you are not alone and if this very post is the only way we can come together every week to connect, know that i am praying over you and with you. This is your challenge to yourself to see you, raise your vibration, claim the space you were always meant to belong in.
